Awards were presented Monday evening to Tammy Boele, and Roger Guthals, for their outstanding work at the Lions Fundraiser at WalMart. The Great Bend Evening Lions hosted a Candy Day/Sight Week event at local stores in Great Bend asking customers if they would like to donate their pocket change to the Lions for exchange of candy or a Lions pencil. Both Tammy and Roger have spent the entire day on multi-years doing this fundraiser and were shown appreciation for their efforts, by the Lions Club. This fundraiser helps the Lions Club to be able to support charities in the community.
Last year the Great Bend Evening Lions donated in total $5,888 to the Columbus Club, Boy Scouts, Lions State Band Camp, Core of Great Bend, KansForKids (cancer), Camp Hope (cancer), Barton County Food Bank (hunger), Hoisington Food Pantry (hunger), Catholic Charities (poverty), Family Crisis Center (poverty), Great Bend Public Library (children), LCIF Disaster Relief (disaster), Kansas Foundation Alert Team (disaster), Great Bend Public Library Grocery Bingo (hunger), Great Bend Bat Cats, 100 People Who Care.
