Adult craft night: Make a macramé keychain
Book Nook.jpg

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s time to get creative at our Adult Craft Night. Is your keychain looking a little dull? Perhaps it needs some added flair? Well, you’re in luck, because we will be making macramé keychains. Learn the craze that took the ’70s by storm and walk away with a cute accessory to boot this evening at 6 p.m.

The next session for our Tabletop Teens D&D Miniseries is tomorrow. The table is full and the campaign is underway, but teens interested in watching the adventure unfold are welcome to join us as audience members. If you think you might be interested in joining as a player for our next teen-led series, coming to spectate is a great way to see what it’s all about and find out if it’s something you’d like to try yourself. The session starts at 3:45 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. Keep in mind that if you would like to stay past when the library closes at 5 p.m., you will be asked to stay for the entirety of the event.

Saturday is the annual Kiwanis Costume Drive from 10-11:30 am. Halloween enthusiasts of all ages are welcome to stop by the Great Bend Public Library and pick out a free costume! Browse through the options on our front lawn, weather permitting. If you would like to support the cause, you can bring new and gently-used costumes to drop off in our costume donation box, located in the library’s north hallway near the photocopier.

Our Tuesday morning story times continue next week, with Baby Bounce from 9:30-10 a.m., and Early Literacy Story Time from 10:30-11 a.m. Although our two story times are intended to engage specific age groups, families may bring children of any age to the story time that fits their family and schedule best. Tuesdays of Terror will continue with a movie at 4 p.m. Follow a troubled security guard who realizes his night shift won’t be as easy as he thought when he confronts some animatronics that are sure to leave you sufficiently spooked.

Wednesday Tween Scene continues from 3:30-5 p.m. Tweens grades 3-5 who feel a little too old for story time but are too young to be in the Teen Spot can hang out and get a glimpse of what it’s like to be a teen at the library.

Next Thursday marks the return of Luna, our reading Pet Partner. Come practice reading out loud to our faithful companion and work towards your goal of successfully reading 10 books by Nov. 21 to receive a free book signed by Luna herself. She will be here to listen to stories from 3:30-5 p.m.

That Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. will be this month’s Teen Manga & Anime Club meeting. For October, we’ll be watching and discussing “Mob Psycho 100” by One. The series follows a psychic middle school boy who tries to live a normal life and keep his growing powers under control, even though he constantly gets into trouble. Afterwards, we’ll make our own Dimple lamps to light the night and provide snarky commentary on our life choices (spirit not included). Copies of November’s series, Sweetness & Lightning by Gido Amagakure, will be available for pickup. If you still need to read Mob Psycho 100 for this meeting, copies are available at the front desk for pickup.
