Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Good news everyone, our winter events catalog is now available. Swing by the library and grab yours today to check out all the exciting events we have planned for December through February.
Speaking of exciting events, boy do we have a few for you this Thursday, Nov. 14. First up is Genealogy Thursday. If you need some one-on-one genealogy help, come in on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon and our resident genealogy expert will be happy to help you fill out that family tree. From 3:30-5 p.m. the spectacular Luna and her handler Glenn will be here to listen to stories. Then at 6 p.m., we are getting messy at Adult Craft Night with paint pouring. This is a really cool (and messy) method of painting done by layering paint in a cup and then letting it flood over your canvas. This creates interesting patterns making no two paintings alike.
After you get in touch with your creative side, get in touch with your competitive side for Harry Potter Trivia at Dry Lake Brewing starting at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14. Test your Potter knowledge and see how well you know the wizarding world. The winning team will win a free round of drinks and a pretty cool Harry Potter-themed prize. Sign up your team of one to four on our website now. And don’t forget to grab a winter catalog so you can keep up to date with all the upcoming trivia nights and other library events this winter.
Friday we have a very special Teen Café from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Baristas from Starbucks will be here for a teen-exclusive coffee tasting. Learn how to pair pastries with your favorite caffeinated beverage and enjoy a drink from their cold bar setup. For those attending keep in mind the food and drinks may contain traces of dairy and/or nuts.
Our Tuesday morning story times continue next week, with Baby Bounce Story Time from 9:30-10 a.m., and Early Literacy Story Time from 10:30-11 a.m. Although our two story times are intended to engage specific age groups, families may bring children of any age to the story time that fits their family and schedule best. Our next check-in for the NaNoWriMo group will be from 5-5:30 p.m. so swing by and share your progress with us and get some help if you are struck with the dreadful writer’s block. Lastly, we have Open Book Club at 7 p.m. This time we will be discussing “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann. If you haven’t read it yet there is still time to pick up a copy at the front desk before book club and join in on the discussion.
Next Thursday we have Genealogy and Luna again at their regular times then at 5:30 p.m. we have a very special Teen Manga and Anime club meeting planned. We will be watching and discussing “Sweetness and Lighting,” this month’s pick, then we are having a ramen cook-off! Teens will compete to make the best ramen they can make with the ingredients provided. Last time the resulting ramen dishes were interesting. Surprisingly a peanut butter ramen ended up winning first place. It was a great example of a little goes a long way. While I wouldn’t sit down to a bowl of it the few bites I tried were actually quite good.
