Wheatland Electric Cooperative Inc. announced on Monday that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to Clara Barton Hospital Foundation.

In the summer of 2021, the Clara Barton Medical Center expanded by establishing a new clinic on McKinley Street in Great Bend. The foundation is seeking grant funding to continue the clinic’s expansion outdoors for a walking/fitness trail. The grant provided by Wheatland will help develop the outdoor space using a proven model established previously by Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington.

“We are excited to be making improvements to our green space that will support and strengthen our community’s health and wellness culture and transform a neglected area of the community,” said Michelle Moshier, foundation executive director. The 1,056-foot outdoor space will provide the trail as well as a classroom/gathering place, for the purpose of encouraging healthy life habits. Clara Barton Medical Center is a network of care facilities throughout Central Kansas comprised of the main hospital and surgical clinic in Hoisington with additional health clinics in Great Bend and Russell.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from nonprofit organizations on Dec. 1, 2012. Wheatland Electric and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted.

Nonprofit groups interested in receiving funding from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund can apply online at https://www.weci.net/sharing-success-program. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, manager of Member Services & Corporate Communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
