At approximately 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, the Great Bend Fire Department responded to the report of a recreational vehicle on fire in the area of 5th and Elm in Great Bend, Great Bend Fire Chief Brent Smith said. First units on-scene found a camper fully involved, with fire spreading to nearby trees.

Fire personnel were able to quickly extinguish the fire, and neighbors advised that a person has been living in the camper. Crews performed a search and found no one inside.

The fire is being investigated by the Great Bend Fire Department and due to the extensive damage, the cause is undetermined, but believed to be accidental in nature.

The camper is considered a total loss.

Great Bend Fire was assisted by the Great Bend Police Department.
