Star of Hope said that the Rigaud, Haiti church which was destroyed by the 2010 Haiti earthquake has been replaced by a church campus that will be used extensively by the community. The new complex was made possible because of a family in Kansas. Bessie DeWerff of Ellinwood, Kansas traveled to Haiti to represent the donor family for the inauguration on Sunday Dec 2, 2013.
A Texas Hold'Em Poker tournament to raise funds for area charities will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall, 114 N. Main in Hoisington. The tournament is open to anyone 21 and over.
A rib-eye steak and shrimp dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall to raise funds for area charities. Tickets for the shrimp dinner are $9, $14 for the rib-eye steak dinner and $17 for the steak and shrimp combo dinner.
I think I have this event in the Cheyenne Bottoms/ Nature Conservancy figured out. It sorts out in 5th grade government studies, war, and the durability of mother nature and the birds. It involves emotional and life-long efforts by some people to protect our wildlife and the environment in a ever expanding population explosion on this earth that will eventually destroy us if not addressed at some point in time.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Food Bank has been around for 25 years, providing food to those who are in need. Karen Schmidt will now be in charge of the program, taking the reins from Lorraine Rickert. Schmidt has announced new hours for the Food Bank.

Two Birger Sandzén paintings were returned to Hoisington USD 431 in late February, to the relief and surprise of Superintendent Bill Lowry. He was amazed at their appearance. The paintings were actually high-quality photographic reproductions of the original pieces that the district sold at auction last summer, along with a small Sandzén watercolor painting.
HOISINGTON - Hoisington High School freshman Hannah Wilborn, performed at the State Piano Festival at Tabor College in Hillsboro. She received a I rating for her piano solo. She is the daughter of Brian and Cindy Wilborn.
