GREAT BEND - Esther Maher, 92, a long-time resident of Great Bend, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at Almost Home, Inc., surrounded by her family. Esther, daughter of Anthony J. and Rosa Dreiling Pfeifer, was born on Jan. 29, 1925, in Victoria. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Donald Maher on Nov. 7, 1949, at Victoria. Donald preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1997. Esther was a devout life-long Catholic and an active member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick's Church.
KINGMAN - Linda Sue "Raine" Sebastian, 61, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 6, 2017. Born on Aug. 29, 1955, in Hays, she was the daughter of Donald and Eleanor Brenton "Dolly" Aumiller. She attended school in Great Bend. She completed her Bachelor's degree at Fort Hays and then attended Kansas University to work on her Master's in Sociology. On July 9, 2000, she married Steve Sebastian in Lawrence and they resided in Kingman.
HOISINGTON - Ruby Elaine Manweiler (Nuss), went to her heavenly home on Feb. 5, 2017. Ruby was delivered into this earthly world by her father at their home in the Wheatland Township, Barton County. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1951.
Barbara L. Ellis, 75, died Feb. 5, 2017, at her home in Great Bend. Born Jan. 5, 1942, at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Clifford John and LaVerne Louise (Lewis) Ellis. A lifetime Great Bend resident, she was dietary manager for Great Bend Manor for 25 years, retiring in 2004. She enjoyed flowers, bird watching, her great-grandchildren, and traveling, especially to Mardi Gras.
Lois Ann Anderson, 67, died Feb. 5, 2017, at her home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 10, 1949, at Cadillac, Mich., she was the daughter of William and Mildred (Gable) McQuiston. A Great Bend resident since 1993, coming from Grapevine, Texas, she worked for Great Bend Housing Authority as a Housing Supervisor.
TIMKEN - Victor A. "Vic" Pechanec, 87, died Feb. 4, 2017, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1929, in Great Bend, he was the son of Henry J. and Rose T. (Vsetecka) Pechanec. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he was a farmer/stockman. On Nov. 16, 1949, he married Agnes Oborny at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken. She preceded him in death May 5, 1987.
