LARNED - Marlene Eestelle Isaacson Felsted, 96, died Sept. 12 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born Feb. 28, 1914, the daughter of Edward John and Nellie Choate Isaacson of Waterville, where she lived until her parents moved to Topeka in 1921. She attended the local schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1932 after which she attended Clark Secretarial School in Topeka.

Kenneth Don Ukens, 73, of Great Bend, who died Sept. 10, is also survived by a sister, Beverly Juergensen, and husband Lyle, of Great Bend.
PRATT - Robert Otto Baird, 63, of Pratt, died Sept. 13 at Southwind Hospice, Pratt. He was born Sept. 23, 1946, at Walsh, Colo., the son of Robert Leo and Mary Lou (Pollard) Baird. He married Betty Lewis on Nov. 15, 1987, at Great Bend. He was an oilfield truck driver and dispatcher. Mr. Baird was a Pratt resident since 1994, coming from Great Bend. He was a member of the American Legion.
Delbert A. Sloan, 89, of Great Bend, died Sept. 9 at his home. He was born Oct. 7, 1920, at Great Bend, the son of L. Chester and Alice M. (Bortz) Sloan. He was a 1938 graduate of Great Bend High School. He married Wilma Marie Witt in 1940 and they later divorced. He then married Betty Nicolet on April 4, 1953, at Great Bend. He managed C & W Machine Shop until 1960, when he engaged in selling oilfield pumping units, retiring in 1985.
CAMERON, Mo. - Donald D. Geil, 80, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo., on Sept. 11. His wife of 56 years, Angela, was at his side. Memorial services will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mercy, 2115 Maturana Drive, Liberty, Mo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the church.

Michael Lee Jackson, 56, died Sept. 7 at his residence in Great Bend. He was born Dec. 19, 1953, at Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Mack Jackson, Sr. and Bruenetter Wrotten. He was a 1971 graduate of Al Reed High School in Dumas, Ark. He was a cook in many restaurants.

STAFFORD - Laura Ethel Stewart, 95, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Harry Hynes Hospice Section of St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. She was born on June 10, 1915, at her parents' home in Lawrenceville, Ill., the daughter of Richard John Kneidl and Laura Ethel Price Kneidl. Laura was a 1932 graduate of Tulsa (Okla.) High School and received a degree in Ancient Languages and graduated magna cum laude from Sterling College in 1936. Christopher Wayne Gross, 34, of Great Bend, died Sept. 3 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1975, at Garden City, the son of Steven F. and Sharon Newton Gross. He was a general laborer and a former Pratt resident, moving to Great Bend in 2008.
HOISINGTON - Junior Lee Patterson, 84, died Sept. 9 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. He was born Jan. 1, 1926, at Collinville, Okla., the son of Pet and Alma (Johnson) Innman. He married Betty J. Phillips on Sept. 24, 1948, at Beaver. He worked for NCRA as a production foreman for 41 years, retiring in 1988. He was a longtime Hoisington resident and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
MANHATTAN - Dr. Kenneth M. Boese, 84, Manhattan, passed away Sept. 8 at the Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville. He was born Sept. 30, 1925, at Hoisington, the son of Jacob Boese and Mabel Whipple Boese. He grew up in Hoisington, where he attended the local schools. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and the Kansas University School of Medicine.

Matthew A. "Matt" Smolik, 90, passed away on Sept. 16, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Carolyn A. Sheets, 79, died Sept. 15 at her home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 3, 1934, in rural Rose Hill, she was the daughter of Earl and Esther (Hall) Showalter. She married Gerald Skeels. On Nov. 9, 1979, she married Donald Eugene "Gene" Sheets in Dighton. He died July 25, 2012. A Great Bend resident since 1963, she was an office manager for Great Bend Appliance for 13 years and was a former secretary at Security State Bank and First National Bank. She enjoyed her family and friends and playing golf.
Peggy Lynn Crowe, 58, died Sept. 16 at her home in Great Bend. Born May 4, 1956, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Johnnie Douglas and Marie (Griffith) Crowe. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was an occupational therapist at Clara Barton Hospital.
Lester Leo Achatz, 65, died Sept. 14 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born Oct. 21, 1948, in Great Bend, he was the son of Milton and Bertha (Birzer) Achatz. On Dec. 27, 2011, he married Kimm M. Lewis in Great Bend. He grew up in Great Bend and lived in Virginia before moving back to Great Bend. He was employed by H-2 Trucking.
ALBERT - Virginia Marie (Amerine) Bird, 91, gently journeyed from this world to a new beginning on Sept. 14th. HUTCHINSON - Aubrey Linus Schartz, 82, died Sept. 14, at his home in Hutchinson. Born Aug. 20, 1932, in rural Ellinwood, he was the son of Edward and Frances Schartz. On Oct. 16, 1951, he married Bonnie Lou Harbaugh in Ellinwood. He retired from Marmie's Motors in Great Bend and moved to Hutchinson.
John Russell Branine, 65, passed away Sept. 12 at the Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 23, 1949, the son of Ralph Sweet and Helen Helms Branine. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend.
