ELLINWOOD - Bernita K. (Urban) Schloemer-Clair, 83, passed away April 27, 2015, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born on Dec. 27, 1931, in Rush County, she was the daughter of Wendelin and Rosemary (Leiker) Urban. In 1949, she graduated from La Crosse High School. On June 20, 1954, she married Millard Schloemer in Great Bend. He died Feb. 22, 1982. She later married Ural G. (Jack) Clair in Ellinwood, on Dec. 7, 1990. She worked as a secretary for USD 403 in Bison and as an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in La Crosse.
HOISINGTON - LeRoy George Schartz Jr., 62, died April 22, 2015, at his home in Hoisington. Born May 3, 1952, in Great Bend, he was the son of LeRoy George and Viola Marie (Hermann) Schartz. He married Sharon Holcomb. They were later divorced. He recently moved to Hoisington from Great Bend, where he had worked in both the carpentry and automotive repair trades. Stan Nelson, 52, of Great Bend died April 26, 2015, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born Oct. 13, 1962, at Council Grove, to Byron Keith and Carolyn (Parsons) Nelson. He married Joyce Klassen Dec. 6, 1996, at Great Bend. Stan had been a Great Bend resident since 1970, coming from Lawrence. Formerly operating and managing the family business, Schendel Weed and Pest Control, Stan currently worked for Barton County Road and Bridge Department.

CLAFLIN - Diana Beth Kaeberle, 57, died April 25, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born Feb. 5, 1958, in Greenville, Miss., she was the daughter of Donald and Reba (Atkins) Beckum. On June 20, 1992, she married Steven Kaeberle in Wilson. A 25 year Barton County resident, living most recently in Claflin, she was a secretary for Barton Community College.

ODIN - Gerald W. "Jerry" Beran, 88, died May 21, 2015, at Almost Home, Great Bend. He was born Sept. 9, 1926, on the farm in Odin, the son of Anton A. and Hattie Rose (Prosser) Beran. He graduated from Odin High School in 1944 and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After returning from the military, Jerry played professional baseball for the Hutchinson Elks.
Delores Rae Keegan, 83, died May 23, 2015, at Sterling House of Great Bend. She was born Aug. 23, 1931, at Little River, the daughter of Ray and Elsie (Eaton) Folck. Mrs. Keegan was a Great Bend resident and taught public school for 39 years, the last 30 years in Great Bend at Morrison and Jefferson Elementary Schools.
Louis Wintholz, 83, passed from this world to join his beloved wife Phyllis, in heaven on May 22, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Collyer, the son of Reinholdt "Ray" and Mary (Windholz) Wintholz. He attended school in Collyer and graduated from the Hays Cadets Academy in 1950. He married Phyllis Montgomery on May 8, 1954, at Hearndon. She passed away on Feb. 15, 2008.
Sister Marie Klein, 102, died May 21, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' Convent Infirmary, Great Bend. Born April 25, 1913, in Fowler, as Mary Ann Agatha Klein, Sister Marie was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Helen (Hoffman) Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community July 14, 1928, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1931. She celebrated 80 years of religious profession in 2011.

LARNED - Walter (Mac) Fox, 92, passed away May 20, 2015, at Diversicare of Larned. Born Sept. 12, 1922, in Larned, he was the son of Walter M. and Gladys Strader Fox. On Dec. 15, 1946, he married Dorothy D. Goldsmith in Wichita. She passed away on May 16, 2013. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer, worked at Larned State Hospital as the plumbing shop foreman for 32 years and also worked at Boeing for one year before going in the service.
RUSSELL - Fara Mae (Brack) Popp, 81, passed away May 17, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1933, on the family farm north of Otis, she was the daughter of Edwin and Phoebe (Keil) Brack. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Otis High School. On June 15, 1958, she married Paul Popp in Otis. She was a homemaker and assisted her parents on the farm when needed.

Julia Ann Barnes, 54, died May 16, at her home in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1960, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of James R. Jr., and Joyce L. (Mohr) Lofland. On Nov. 14, 1981, she married Jeff Barnes in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was employed in retirement plan management at CPI Qualified Plan Consultants for more than 15 years. She had a great love of quilting.
