OLMITZ - Joyce Ann Bitter, 70, died May 23 at her home in Olmitz. Born Aug. 17, 1940 in Barton County, she was the daughter of Frank and Isabel (Gerritzen) Riedel. On July 16, 1960 she married Willard D. Bitter in Olmitz. He died Sept. 3, 1985. A lifetime resident of Olmitz, she was a retired housekeeper for Clara Barton Hospital.
CLAFLIN - Robert E. Hickel, 81, went to be with our Lord Saturday, May 21. He died at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born Feb. 5, 1930, in rural Barton County, the son of Robert Anthony and Emma (Zecha) Hickel. He married Betty J. Lawrence on May 28, 1951, at Hoisington. A lifetime Claflin resident, he was a retired farmer/stockman and oil producer.
HOISINGTON - Robert "Bob" K. Littrell, 83, died May 22 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born April 7, 1928, at Hoisington, he was the son of George D. and Gladys M. (Vandenberg) Littrell. He married Betty Arlene Durand on June 20, 1950, at Hoisington. She died May 22, 2001. A lifetime resident of the Hoisington area, he worked for Terra Resources as a production superintendent, retiring in 1982.
LURAY - LaVona Jean Bowen, 68, died May 22 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born July 28, 1942, at Gorham, the daughter of Miles V. and Maudie (Jones) Anthony. She married Ronald N. Bowen July 27, 1958, at Alva, Okla. He died May 27, 2008. A Luray resident for 26 years, coming from Inman, she was a homemaker.

ST. JOHN - Velma Deane Koelsch, 85, died Tuesday, May 17 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. She was born Nov. 23, 1925 at Stafford, the daughter of Edward Henry and Laura (Fritzemeier) Schneider. A life-long resident of St. John, she was a homemaker, graduate of Stafford High School, worked for Carr Auction and was the past deputy treasurer for Stafford County.
Wendi Sue Sineway, 42, died May 18 at her home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 13, 1968 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Kenneth Eugene and Charlotte (Littrell) Sineway. She was a lifetime resident of Great Bend.
HOISINGTON - Dolores J. Hogan, 84, died May 18 at Buhler Sunshine Home. Born Aug. 2, 1926 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Theodore R. and Isabelle M. (Radke) Lutschg. On June 25, 1946 she married Virgil Hogan in Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, she was a retired bookkeeper for Suburban Laundry.
BUSHTON - Larry R. Schroeder, 71, of Bushton, died Tuesday, May 17, in Peoria, Ill. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born Jan. 24, 1940 in Ellsworth, he was the son of Robert Schroeder and Myrtle Weihe. He grew up in Lorraine, along with his sister Nancy, who survives. On Jan. 28, 1961 he married JoEllen Maes, who survives. They made their home in Bushton, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was a farmer, who also enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending athletic events.
DODGE CITY - Carol Jeanie (Kennedy) Blazek, 64, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born June 4, 1950 at Russell, the daughter of Gerald L. and Catherine (Nault) Kennedy. A Dodge City resident for the past 40 years, moving from Hoisington, she worked at Sonic Drive In and Wardrobe Cleaners, both in Dodge City, retiring in 2012. She enjoyed crocheting and making poppies for the Veterans.

Mary Lea Wade, 85, died Oct. 21, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Aug. 14, 1929, in Prague, Okla., she was the daughter of Alvin and Pearl (Stiffler) Montgomery. On Oct. 14, 1951, she married Lee Wade in Great Bend. He died on April 9, 1988. A resident of Great Bend since 1946, coming from Prague, Okla., she was a secretary for Kopke Law Office and Haneke Financial Services.
RUSSELL - Gerald Dean Bender, 72, passed away on Oct. 19, at Russell Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 23, 1942, in Russell, he was the son of Herbert H. and Viola E. (Mai) Bender. He grew up and attended schools in the Milberger area. He was employed by the City of Russell in the refuse department for 20 years, retiring in 1999.
CLINTON, Iowa - Gerald V. Galusha, 91, of Clinton, Iowa, died Sunday Oct. 19, at his home. Gerald was born on Aug. 16, 1923, in Garden Plaines, Ill., the son of James and Louise (Gerhardt) Galusha. He graduated from Erie High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, with the 90th Infantry Division under General Patton. He was wounded on Jan. 16, 1945, at the Battle of the Bulge, when he received severe head injuries from mortar shell shrapnel.
Jack Daubert, 61, died Oct. 19 at Hutchinson Regional Hospital. Born in Great Bend, on April 9, 1953, he was the son of Herman and Wanda (Riemann) Daubert. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1972. Jack worked as a Certified Medical Assistant at "The Cedars" retirement community in McPherson. He was a longtime resident of Great Bend.
Kathy L. Kaiser, 65, passed away Oct. 19, at her home. Born Aug. 10, 1949, in Hopeton, Okla., she was the daughter of Glenn S. and Artie R. (Elliott) Jones. A resident of Great Bend since 1977, she worked 23 years for USD #428 in Food Service. On July 30, 1977, she married Paul Kaiser in Great Bend. He survives of the home.
James C. Burnette, 77, died Oct. 20 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 6, 1937 at Salina, he was the son of Cecil Marion and Stella M. (Lackey) Burnette.
KINSLEY - J. Craig Heinz, 66, died Oct. 17, at Hays Medical Center. Born Oct. 23, 1947, in Spearville, he was the son of Jim and Rosemary (McKillip) Heinz. He was a Finance Controller.
BEATRICE, Neb. - Karen L. Kirkpatrick, 88 years and 27 days of age, passed away at her home Saturday morning, Oct. 18th. She was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Hoisington, to Duke and Opal (Sypolt) Van Brimmer. Karen was a 1944 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Wichita State University for two years. Karen and William Kirkpatrick were married on May 7, 1948, in Hoisington. She then taught school at a rural school near Great Bend from 1949-1950. BRYAN, Texas - Lucio Armando Cano, 54, passed away Oct. 15. Born March 1, 1960, in Mexico, he was the son of Guadalupe (Montes) Cano. Armando was a loving soul and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
LARNED - Dale Otte, 76, passed away Oct. 17, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Jan. 4, 1938, in Great Bend, he was the son of Wilmer and Leah Dorfshaffer Otte. A longtime area resident he was a farmer/stockman. On Sept. 16, 1956, he married Karen Rice in Great Bend. She survives.
