Rev. Lee Allen Stubblefield, at the age of 78, one of God's most faithful servants was called home on June 10, 2016 at Leisure Homestead, St. John. He was born on July 4, 1937 at Tulsa, Okla., the son of Carson and Gertrude Rose (Higley) Stubblefield. He was a Baptist minister serving at the Omega Church in Akron, Ind., Great Bend Bible Church and he was Chaplain at Ogden Rescue Mission, Utah. Jane Helen Bowyer, 85, died June 9, 2016, at Leisure Homestead in St. John. Born March 21, 1931, in Ellis, she was the daughter of Fred W. and Aethel (Bruegel) Homburg. On June 5, 1955, she married LaVern George Bowyer at the St. John Lutheran Church in Ellis. He died on Feb. 12, 2006. A Great Bend resident since 1986, coming from rural Albert, she was a homemaker, retired dairy farmer and farm wife, Avon Lady and owner and operator of the Jayhawker Motel in Great Bend.
Rowena Frances (Thompson) Keener, 83, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 8, 2016, at her home in Great Bend after a long battle with cancer. Born on Sept. 16, 1932, at Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of George Ellis and Freida Madeline (Hackstadt) Thompson. A resident of Great Bend since the early 1950's she worked in the laundry at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend for many years. Rowena loved to sew, enjoyed quilting, tole painting, and crocheting.
Olga Louise Welch, 102, died June 5, 2016, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Jan. 25, 1914, at Coffeyville, she was the daughter of Henry Ernest and Bertha (Sitz) Pomrenke. She married James Arthur "Jim" Welch Sept. 24, 1947, at Great Bend. He died Sept. 2, 2001. Olga had been a Great Bend resident since 1947. Before her marriage, she was an office manager for several Western Union offices in Kansas and Missouri and later was a nurses' aide at Central Kansas Medical Center. Harold Martin Schenk, 98, died June 4, 2016, at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. Born Feb. 17, 1918, in Olmitz, he was the son of William and Amelia (Spitzka) Schenk. On Oct. 8, 1947, he married Wilma Jean Nagel in Great Bend. She died Feb. 3, 1993. He then married Wilma Jean (Stukey) Burton on Dec. 14, 1996, in Olmitz. She died July 27, 2013. A resident of Great Bend since 1947, coming from Olmitz, he was a pumper for Aspen Drilling, Western Petroleum, Chapman Drilling and Ryan Drilling. He enjoyed traveling and square dancing.
HUDSON - Marilyn E. Teichmann, 82, died June 4, 2016, at her home. Born Jan. 9, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Jesse and Blanche Danford Walter. In 1951, she graduated from Great Bend High School. On Sept. 26, 1954, she married Merle Teichmann at Hudson. She was a secretary/clerk for Ida Long Goodman Library and was a dedicated farm wife.
TRUMBULL, Neb. - Charles Kuhlman, 88, went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2016. Charles was born in Olmitz in 1927, to Rudolph and Angela Kuhlman. He attended St. Joseph's Military Academy, and graduated from St. Ann's High School at Olmitz. In 1950 he was united in marriage to Catherine (Finger). He farmed in Lane County for several years before his employment at the Trumbull Harmon Grain Storage as Assistant Manager from 1958-1981. He then worked at the Trumbull Coop from 1981-1990 as the Credit Manager.
