Nebergall 60th

James and Bettie Nebergall will celebrate their 60th anniversary on June 4 in a celebration Mass at St. George Catholic Church in St. George, Utah.

Mr. Nebergall was employed as a history teacher and basketball coach at Great Bend High School. Mrs. Nebergall began her career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse and later worked in the Great Bend school system, teaching advanced English. They now live in St. George, Utah. Rick Bussman and Derinda Faye Garret were married on May 24, 1968, at the First United Methodist Church in Turley, Okla. They met at Northeastern Oklahoma College in Miami and completed their college studies at Panhandle A and M. They moved to Great Bend in 1971. Rick is sales manager for Dove Buick and Cadillac agency and Derinda is a retired extension agent for family and consumer science for Barton County.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard D. Leonard D. Sharp and Virginia Lenora Lonnon were united in marriage on March 13, 1948, at Baker Avenue Baptist Church in Great Bend, now the Central Baptist Church. The have been residents of Great Bend their entire married life. The couple is now retired from farming in Barton and Stafford counties. They operated a 64,000-caged layer poultry facility from 1980 to 2002 and now have a 2,000-swine finishing barn managed by their son. They were rural motor route carriers for The Hutchinson News from 2003 to 2006. Mrs. Sharp was the home ec secretary at Barton County Extension Service prior to 1980.

The couple have four children, Lenora Bruckdorfer and husband Rod of Baltimore, Md., James Sharp and wife Judi of Derby, Charles Sharp and wife Kathie of Great Bend and John Sharp and wife Polly of Kobe, Japan; five grandchildren, Michelle Bruckdorfer Warren and husband Robert of Charlotte, N.C., Jennifer Sharp Findley and husband Troy of Topeka, Jeremy Sharp of Atlanta, Ga., Maeve Sharp, a student of Pittsburg State University, and Lonnon Sharp, a student at Great Bend High School, both of Great Bend; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Warren of Charlotte, N.C., and Zach Findley of Topeka.

Winkelman 60th

Maurice and Eloise Winkelman celebrated their 60th anniversary on Jan. 18. They were married in St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood and have spent their entire married life in this area.

Their children are Bruce and Jeanette Winkelman of Tulsa, Okla.; Monte and Lonnie Winkelman of Sioux City, Iowa; Tim and Karen Winkelman of Great Bend; and Lois Sierra of Lawrence. Their six grandchildren are Kirk Winkelman of Olathe; Joel and Heather Winkelman of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Justin Winkelman of Storm Lake, Iowa; Alison Winkelman and Philip Sierra and Emma Sierra, all of Lawrence.

Mr. and Mrs. Winkelman are enjoying their retirement at their home in Ellinwood.

McKown 55th

Mr. and Mrs. George M. and Martha J. McKown celebrated their 55th anniversary on Jan. 18. George M. McKown and Martha Lu Johnson were married on Jan. 18, 1953, in Cherokee, Okla.

Residents of Great Bend most of their married life, they owned DaMac Drilling, Inc. and affiliated companies, headquartered in Great Bend. The couple have four sons, David McKown of Great Bend and Maui, Hawaii, Bill McKown of Great Bend, Charles McKown of Arkansas City and James McKown of Kansas City; and seven grandchildren. Mr. McKown is currently under hospice care at Cherry Village.

Lorenz and Norma Ochs of Lawrence celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner on Nov. 23 at SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Lawrence.

Mr. Ochs and Norma Ackerman were married Dec. 7, 1947, in Eureka. Lorenz worked for Centel Electric in Great Bend for 35 years. Mrs. Ochs was a registered nurse at the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita. They are retired.

Their children are Mitchell Ochs of Great Bend, Stephan Ochs of McLean, Va., and Jeanette Ochs of Lawrence. They have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Gene and Edith Chaloupek celebrated their 30th anniversary on Dec. 18. Gene Chaloupek and Edith Cameron were united in marriage on Dec. 18, 1977. Residents of Great Bend, he is employed by Kansas Machine Works and she is a stay-at-home mom.

Don and Connie Redding of Bushton will celebrate their 50th anniversary in Kansas City the weekend of Dec. 14 with their children and grandchildren. Don Redding and Connie Lathrop were united in marriage on Dec. 14, 1957, in Great Bend.

Residents of Bushton for the last 40 years, Don was formerly employed by Hydrocarbon Transportation Inc. and later owned and operated Reddings Convenience Store. The couple have four children, Randy of Bushton, Robin Hickel of Claflin, Russell and wife Leah of Wichita and Ronda Ingham and husband Tom of Olathe. Their grandchildren are Azariah Redding, Lindsay Wood and husband Aaron, Jordan Hickel, Laurel Hickel, Layton Hickel, Zachary Redding, Wyatt Redding, Tanner Redding, Scott Ingham and Macy Ingham.

Harold and Velda Hudnall celebrated their 50th anniversary with their children and families in Colorado.

Harold Hudnall and Velda Steinle were married on Oct. 6, 1957, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell. They moved from Russell to Great Bend in 1967. Mr. Hudnall retired as general manager of APS Incorporated in 1996, after working for the company for 44 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Swigart will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 15, at the Senior Citizen Center, 2005 Kansas Ave., in Great Bend.

Wayne Edward Swigart and Jean Martha Schroeder were united in marriage on Sept. 21, 1957, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. Mr. Swigart was a cowboy and foreman for the Walnut Hill Feed Yard for 19 years. Then he was a foreman for the city of Great Bend for 18 years. Mrs. Swigart was a homemaker and a part-time home health care worker.

Glenn and Thelma Brack of Hoisington celebrated their 50th anniversary at the Brookville Hotel Chicken House in Abilene with relatives and friends.

They were married Aug. 19, 1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Brack is retired after 34 years of service as a police officer and chief of police in Hoisington. Mrs. Brack retired as chief operator from the telephone company after 12 1/2 years in Hoisington and 20 1/2 years from both Dillons stores in Great Bend.

The couple's children are: Burton and wife Karen, Kyle, Krystyne and Derrick of Salina; and Breta and husband Jaime, Brandon Brack, Justin and Jazmin Nunez of Hoisington.

Taylor 50th

John E. and Elaine Taylor celebrated their 50th anniversary on Aug. 24. John Taylor and Elaine Hooper were married on Aug. 24, 1957, at the Church in the Wildwood in Green Mountain Falls, Colo.

They are both from the local area. Mr. Taylor grew up on the Walnut Hill Ranch, which later was turned into the Walnut Hill Feed Yard. After selling the feed yard, they opened Taylor Toys. He still operates a smaller version of the store. Mrs. Taylor was an accountant.

The couple have one daughter, Peggy Taylor of Lawrence, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nathan Billings of Lawrence.

Kenneth Fritz and Wilma Cleft were married on Aug. 28, 1947, at the First Methodist Church in Hoisington. He is a World War II veteran and celebrated his 90th birthday on April 14. She celebrated her 79th birthday on Feb. 12.

The couple have six children: Ken and Terri Fritz and Larry and Deborah Carnahan, all of Great Bend; David and Julie Fritz of Lee's Summit, Mo.; Barry and Christi Fritz of Salina; Guy and Linda Wilson of Douglass; and Tracy Bates of Hoisington. They have 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Bill retired from Great Bend Farm Equipment and Kay retired from Marmie Motors after 44 years.

Kellerman 40th

Darrel and Mary Anna Kellerman will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on August 5.

Darrel Kellerman and Mary Anna Creutzmeyer were married in 1967 in Horton. Darrel and Mary Anna met at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. The couple have spent their entire careers in education and have enjoyed many residences around Kansas. Darrel is currently Superintendent for U.S.D. #405 in Lyons and Mary Anna is teaching Special Education at Great Bend High School. They have been planning on retiring in one or two more years for the past six years.

The couple have two children, Daren and Tonya. Daren is the police chief in La Harpe. His wife, Jennifer, works at the American Eagle distribution center in Ottawa. Tonya is a doctor in Seattle, Wash. and was married July 5 to Dan Barkley, who is attending law school at Seattle University in Seattle, Wash.

The children will be hosting a casual come and go reception for their parents from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 5th in Topeka at 5820 SW 33rd Street. Meyer 60th

George A. Meyer and Anna Millicent Meyer will celebrate their 60th anniversary on June 24 with a private family dinner. They were married on June 24, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pittsburg.

Mr. Meyer is retired from Isern Drilling Co. and still raises wheat on the family farm in Marion County, where he had raised nationally acclaimed registered Hereford cattle. Mrs. Meyer is a retired teacher from Ellinwood Grade School. The couple has lived in Ellinwood since they were married and are active members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellinwood.

A reception will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Church Hall, 28 Kansas St., in Russell. There will be a Mass at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Friends and relatives are invited to share this day with the celebrants. The couple request no gifts.

Hosts honoring their parents will be: Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. (Rosalee) Hammerschmidt of Russell and Mr. and Mrs. Marion (Rose) Hammerschmidt Sr. of Great Bend. The couple has five grandchildren, Shelby Campbell and husband Bruce of Houston, Texas, Jacquelyn Ekart and husband Timothy of Wa-mego, Stephen Hammer-schmidt of Wichita, 1st Sgt. Marion Hammerschmidt Jr., U. S. Marine Corps of Camp Lejuene, N.C., Christopher Hammerschmidt of Indepen-dence; and four great-grandchildren, Mariah Ekart, Kaitlyn Ekart, Miranda Hammerschmidt and Christ-opher Koal Hammerschmidt.

Parker 50th

Juanita and Arlan Parker of Ness City, will celebrate their 50th anniversary later this month with a family vacation in Branson, Mo.

Parker and the former Juanita Pember were married on June 16, 1957, in the First Baptist Church in Ness City. Juanita is retired after 40 years of teaching business education in Ness County, with 38 of them at Ness City High School. Arlan is semi-retired from farming and ranching.

Joining them in Branson will be their son Harlan and wife Laura and their sons Dylan and Christian of Phoenix, Md.; daughter Patty and her children Elysha and Benjamin of Old Monroe, Mo.

Smith 30th

Reginald (Reggie) and Sandy Smith recently celebrated their 30th anniversary at their home in Detroit, Mich.

Reginald Smith and Sandra Roach were married on June 7, 1977, in Great Bend.

Helping them celebrate were their children, Travis and Janelle Smith of Oak Park, Mich., Nicole and Jerwan Rickman of Eastpointe, Mich., and Andrea Smith of Detroit. The couple have 10 grandchildren.

Bowman 50th

Howard and Carole Bowman of Pawnee Rock, will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a family gathering at Lee's Summit, Mo., June 29 through July 2. Howard Bowman and Carole Unruh were married June 22, 1957, at the New Jerusalem Church in Pawnee Rock.

Their children and spouses are: Robert and Kelly Bowman of Great Bend, and David Bowman and Gay Beth and Carl Bingham, all of Lee's Summit, Mo. Their grandchildren are: Brittany, Kristan and Jace Bowman, Kelsey and twins, Courtney and Lindsey Bingham.
